I originally started Shotokan Karate in 1982 aged 26 at the secular hall, Leicester and achieved 6th kyu in December 1983 before leaving. Once married and more settled it seemed a wise decision for my wife, two sons and myself to train in Karate for various reason :- fitness, discipline, confidence and be able to protect ourselves and others in todays violent society. Therefore as a family en-masse we started with Traditional international shotokan Karate association under the instruction of Sensei G Sahota 6th Dan. Training from October 2002 to April 2005 and on leaving I was 3rd kyu. Having knowledge of Sensei A Conroy ( from secular hall) and upon hearing he was undertaking classes local to us our family unit enrolled with Sensei in November 2005. Over the years i have been fortunate to have received training and guidance from Sensei Tony Conroy, Richard Freer and Kevin King. I greatly appreciate their skills, expertise, forbearance and understanding. I secured 1st kyu July 2007, then had a third major leg operation. I managed to achieve Shodan with my eldest son James aged 16 on 28/11/10. I’m so pleased for both of us, especially James.
