In 1989, at the age of 9 years old, I started training in Karate under the teaching of Sensei Harvey Smith. From the moment I started, I immediately loved it and couldn’t get enough. I trained as much as I could entering competitions and doing a few courses with Sensei Tony Conroy now and again along the way. In 1994, I achieved my Shodan under the examination of Sensei Conroy, finally achieving my black belt. I remained training hard up until 2000 when, for personal reasons had to stop because I didn’t have enough time to train. Now, in 2007, I have finally returned to training again under the teaching of Sensei Conroy. I have been back a few months now and I am still enjoying it. Karate teaches discipline, self defence and is great for flexibility and fitness. I hope I never have to give up karate for any reason again, after I have missed it so much. My plans for the future in Karate are to get as high a grade as I can, possibly teach and continue to train for as long as possible. |
