I started training in Shotokan Karate in 1975 at the age of 23 and was awarded the grade of 6^th Kyu in December 1976 by Sensei Selwyn Gould of the Rising Sun School of Karate, Cardiff.

After a break of 15 years, I began training again in 1991 under the instruction of Sensei Reede Brown and was surprised at how quickly things came back to me. I was awarded 1^st Dan by Sensei David Sharkey in 1993 and went on to gain my 2^nd Dan under Sensei Anthony Conroy in 1996.

I also trained under Sensei Chico Mbakwe of the Welsh Shotokan Karate Union in Cardiff from 1999 - 2001.

Following another break from training, I resumed in 2009, again under the instruction of Sensei Reede Brown. Earlier on the same year I also took up the art of Tae Kwon Do.

I am grateful for all those that have kindly trained me at various times over the last 3 decades or so, with a special thanks to Reede for his teaching, encouragement and friendship.
