Samantha Jones - 1st Dan

I started Shotokan karate when I was six years old. My dad had told me of a class starting in my area and my parents thought it would improve my confidence, so I started training with sensei Reede Brown in 1993.

I trained at sensei Brown’s club for approximately 6 years, until early 2003 when it unfortunately closed. Because of my age I found it hard to train on courses, but the one I did attend I enjoyed.

On several occasions Sensei Bernard Downey came down to our class to teach kata other than Shotokan, and I enjoyed this experience also.

In April 1999, at the age of eleven, I was successful in achieving my 1st Dan. I now train in another area of Cardiff under Sensei Peter Watson, whose club is overseen by Sensei Brown.

I enjoy karate for many reasons, and the main one is that it takes my mind off schoolwork. I enjoy attending training sessions and learning more about karate and self-defence. I enjoy kata training and feel that Shotokan karate has helped to improve my confidence and discipline. I hope to be training for many years to come.
